What We Do:
We LOVE color!!
We dye small lots of yarn using ingredients you would find in your average kitchen. Instead of harsh or toxic mordants, we use salt, white vinegar, food colors, and the citric acid found in flavored drink mixes. Because we don’t use harsh mordants, we only work with animal fibers like wools, alpaca, and occasionally, even silk.
We use many of the same utensils and pans (some of them now quite colorful!) that I turn around and scrub out in order to cook dinner with – and I’m awful picky about chemicals in our foods! (but ask me, sometime, about the Kelly green cord on my crock-pot!)
Colors are gently heat-set to ensure they’re colorfast, while at the same time avoiding felting the fibers. Which is also one of the reasons you'll find a lot of superwash in our inventory!!!
